National Bureau for NGOs
The NGO Bureau is a department within the Ministry of Internal Affairs responsible for registering, monitoring, inspecting, and regulating non-governmental organisations and community based organisations across Uganda. The Bureau exercises its mandate under the NGO Act 2016, as amended by the NGO (Amendment) Act 2024.

Uganda established an operational board to register and oversee NGOs, reporting to the Minister of Internal Affairs.
The NGO Registration (Amendment) Act strengthened the National Board for NGOs and its monitoring role.
Established the National Bureau for NGOs and created the District (DNMC) and Sub-county (SNMC) Monitoring Committees.
The 2020 Amendment made the Bureau a department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, led by a Secretary.
Further refined the framework that governs how the Bureau registers, monitors and regulates the sector today.
