Our commitment
The NGO Bureau is committed to making this site usable by people with the widest possible range of abilities. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA across every public page.
What works well
- You can navigate the whole site using a keyboard alone.
- Every page has a clear heading hierarchy that screen readers can follow.
- Form fields have visible labels and helpful error messages, not placeholder-only.
- Colour is not the only way meaning is carried; icons and text labels back it up.
- Text resizes up to 200% without breaking the layout.
- Links describe the destination so they make sense out of context.
- The Nyange assistant can be closed and re-opened with a keyboard shortcut.
What we are still working on
The following items are known issues we plan to fix:
- Some PDF forms made under the NGO Regulations 2017 are scans, not tagged PDFs. We are replacing them with accessible versions one form at a time.
- Older news articles may contain images without descriptive alt text. We are adding alt text as articles are updated.
- The District NGO Monitoring Committee directory is in preparation and currently shows a placeholder. The full directory will be searchable when it lands.
If something is not working for you
We want to hear from you. Tell us what page you were on, what you were trying to do, what assistive technology you were using, and what happened.
- Email us at info@ngobureau.go.ug with the subject line "Accessibility".
- Or use the form on the contact page.
- We aim to acknowledge accessibility reports within five working days.
Enforcement
If you believe the Bureau is not meeting accessibility requirements and our response does not resolve your complaint, you can take the matter further with the Personal Data Protection Office or any other competent authority.
